Lets get started. COVID-19.

As most of the USA (and large portions of the world) are about to start to work from home due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), it's important to understand the amount of extra time you've just gained, realize time is the most coveted of assets (this is what rich people buy), and how to use that time to better your life.

Around tier 1 US cities, commute times seem to be 30min-2hours. Lets assume an average of 1hr each way. For context, my personal commute was better than most in my industry, about 45min.

So, 1 hour each way is 2 hours per day, 10 hours each week. What can you accomplish with this time? I think there are two real focus areas 1) Health and 2) Skills.

First, if you're out of shape, then you can use 30min-1hr each day to get more sun and move more in general. I've done extreme workouts before, half marathons or HIIT or crossfit, etc, but you don't need that to be healthier. Take a walk. It's unreal how many benefits you can get from walking. Focus on your posture while you walk. Elliott Hulse from Strengthcamp talks about this often, here's an example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKelkKvm49Y.

The most important aspect of watching your health is what you eat. Eat less. It's hard to eat while you're being active so taking a walk will reduce your eating window. I know most people look at calories burned *during* exercise, but it's really a tiny amount of your total consumption/burn. Focus on reduced consumption and you'll have better health than the people eating like a normal American and adding workouts to compensate.

Next, we'll focus on skills. I don't think most people realize how many possibilities there are for skills. This isn't scouts where you have to learn to start a fire or tie a knot. I focus on skills that improve my finances. I understand people have different goals so if you want to focus on something else then I don't judge. The skills I'm interested in will focus around two topics, 1) Commercial Real Estate and 2) Social Media.

Commercial Real Estate (CRE). I'll talk about CRE a lot on this blog and in videos. I love it. I think it's interesting learn how to be able to make something and it provides shelter for a family/business, income for you, and increases your net worth if you can create it for less than it's ultimately valued. I'll have more content on how to get started, what to expect, and importantly, how to learn the skills required to be successful. To this end, I'll spend time each day with a spreadsheet and some deals so I can stay sharp and understand the market.

Social Media. I have no idea why so many people are on social media. I don't get it, I don't have accounts for many of the most used platforms and the accounts I do have are rarely used. Yet, everyone is on them and they seem to like it so much they'll miss beautiful/important parts of their lives while focusing on what I consider unusable content from people they don't know or relate to. I'm obviously missing something so I'm going to figure it out. That's the real secret sauce of starting this site, I had to spend the money and effort to create it. I'm much more likely to follow through and continue learning skills around social media because I'll need them to feel like I didn't waste this time and effort. Nassim Taleb calls it "skin in the game." https://medium.com/incerto/what-do-i-mean-by-skin-in-the-game-my-own-version-cc858dc73260

I've tried watching the game for a long time, I'm not getting it, time to play the game with everyone else.

Good luck to everyone on this new journey.
